The Factoria, Hudson Valley New York Wedding

My Experience with the couple

From our initial call, I felt the genuineness and kindness of Teressa. She was easy to talk to and we were able to explore what type of film she’s looking for and what’s important. I love their story of falling in love in Tanzania and uniting their families in New York.

When we finally met in person, we decided on a NYC coffee shop and had a really nice, good, long conversation. We learned more about each other and slowly started to chat as friends with every sip of coffee. We discussed all the details of the wedding from the schedule, timelines, locations, vendors and things that are important. We were very receptive to each other’s ideas and suggestions. It really felt like a collaboration with the goal of creating the best wedding experience. Even after the meeting, we were exchanging ideas over email.

When I finally met Niall the following week, I can definitely feel why these two belongs together. There’s something about seeing how a couple interacts with each other and what they say about each other, that you know… they are a match.

I can talk more about the couple and their venue. but why not let them speak for themselves.

Couple’s Questions

Why do you want to capture your wedding on video?

We surveyed several couples, and asked them what they might have done differently in respect to their own weddings and the answer was always "HIRE A VIDEOGRAPHER-everything goes by so fast, and you'll want the opportunity to look back on the day and appreciate everything you weren't able to see or absorb in the actual moment.."

This made sense to us, especially because there are so many people we've had the privilege of loving from different chapters of each of our lives who are all coming together to celebrate. I don't think everyone I love will ever be even on the same continent again (EVER!), so it's a pretty special time and we really want to capture what we can of it.

Why did you pick me to film your wedding at The Factoria?

I liked the diversity of your portfolio-to me, the samples indicated someone who produced high quality work that was not siloed into a particular style, which is kind of rare, since a lot of videographers had specific ways of executing on a vision and either you fit the profile or you do not. I feel that your approach is more collaborative and I like how each video doesn't seem to have a set formula but instead is a product of the individual couple, and the day.

It was important to us that we could work together with someone, get along with them, trust in their ability, and know that they'd listen to our input and provide their own input as well especially since we were operating abroad.

How do you guys spend your days? What’s important in life?

During our free time, we like to play games, invent new games, make impractical things and turn most interactions into informal competitions. Because we do move often enough, we value the friendships and relationships we make, and put a lot of effort into maintaining them across time zones and country lines.

The Factoria at Charles Point - Why this place above anywhere else?

Our first trip together was to Cold Spring in the fall (right around this time exactly) and so we thought it would be nice to get married in the area because we liked it so much when we first came. We also have so many guests coming in from NYC/LI/out of country and wanted to make it as easy as possible for them to get to our wedding, so finding a venue close to the Hudson Line that was easily accessible from NYC was our biggest priority. We didn't want it to be any further than Westchester and we also wanted there to be the option of an after party that was convenient as well.

Factoria was perfect because of its proximity to the train line and NYC, unlimited drink and dinner options, and its big game room for the after party in the same building. Guess the decision was very guest centric.
